In Memory of our Comrades

Steven Oliver (Ollie)

15th February 2008

It is with sadness we report the untimely death of our friend and member Ollie. He died from a heart attack at the age of 54. He leaves behind his wife Linda and their three sons, James, Michael & Christopher. A proud and loving husband, father and former Royal Marine.

Raymond Lavery (Ray)

21st July 2008

It is with great sadness we report the death of our Chairman, Ray. He died at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer. A very good Chairman to our Branch and a friend to many, many people near and far. He will be very sadly missed by all. Our condolences go out to his family. Until we meet again dear friend.

The Royal Marines Prayer

O Eternal Lord God, who through many generations has united and inspired the

members of our Corps, grant Thy blessing, we beseech Thee, on Royal Marines

serving all round the GLOBE. Bestow Thy CROWN of Righteousness upon all our

efforts and endeavours and may our LAURELS be those of gallantry and honour,

loyalty and courage. We ask these things in the Name of Him, whose courage never

failed, our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Amen

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them

A poem for all

Death is nothing at all. It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is an absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.
All is well.
